Films as well as books get routinely banned...A crime reporter pays for his courage wid death..An artist dies in exile...Release of a movie face violent attack by mob at theaters...where is the Liberal India...??
The brutal killing of crime reporter Jay Dey and death in exile of celebrity artist M F Hussain raised a serious question in my mind...about Intolerant India...these incidents show d shrinking face of our democracy and freedom of expressions...!! Sarcastic freedom of speech and expressions has increased considerably..several groups of people are trying to claim the custody of whole nation and we boast of living in World's most populous democracy....isnt it an odd...???!!
Few journalists were killed and few more were attacked in a span of six months...Artists voluntarily shifted their paintings to galleries in Paris from Mumbai...Mumbai University gave away to protests by some political party & hurriedly withdrew foreign author's book..Religious leaders issued Fatwas targeting muslim women...A violent mob attacked theaters ahead of release of My Name Is Khan...Another party opposed appointment of women in bars showing complete disrespect abt Women Empowerment Act.
I consider that in complex, multi-cultured, diverse and heavily populated nation as ours, there is bound to be some amount of intolerance...However, some say that India has always been intolerant...We are reluctant to accept different ideas & our minds are so closed to those who are unlike us...Height of all, our government too doesnt want to act. Notebooks with onliner "I wont lose the faith in the Indian judiciary & democracy" are on a hit. Goondagiri is on the rise.
Hatred, narrow-mindness, caste politics, discrimination against poor & minority is getting worse than ever over last few years...we've failed to live up to the words Secular and Democracy (which are part of our Constitution)...there is a regular attempt to suffocate a secular voice...Are we only promoting money, power and supremacy..?? Making anti-national, anti-hindu or anti-muslim remarks has become fashionable. Surprisingly those who do it are convinced that its their moral duty..I seriously feel this trend is very much dangerous..Religious groups dominate and women collapse under pressure. Violence and intolerance are so widespread...when the community is intolerant even towards religious & inter-caste marriages, how can human rights be protected....?!!!
